Native place names tell us how areas were traditionally used and deepen understanding of our heritage. These names – along with oral history and traditional stories – are lost when not documented and passed on to younger generations.
The Yuungnaqelput Iligayarmi place names project has collected hundreds of Bristol Bay place names into one mapping database, but there are many more that have not been documented.
